Ep. 57 - Horns (Hellboy vs. Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance)

We celebrate Halloween with devilish heroes, some with horns, like HELLBOY, and one in particular who is Nicolas Cage AND ALSO has a flaming skull head. But let's go back to the horns with a mini-review of the new release... HORNS.

GUESTS: Coolness from Podgravy and Justin Stewart from Sequential Spirits attempt to recruit us into their Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance fan club, but Mike will only join if it's a biker club and he can live out his days as Ron Perlman.

Ep. 56 - Automata (Blade Runner vs. Her)

On this episode we talk relationships with robots. In BLADE RUNNER we have Harrison Ford meeting cute with a very acrobatic Darryl Hannah replicant, and in HER we have Joaquin Phoenix who is unable to make it work with Rooney Mara and Olivia Wilde, but finds his soul mate in the hottest smartphone ever invented where Siri is played by Scarlett Johanssen. But first, the newest look at human relationships with robots, Antonia Banderas dances away desert depression in AUTOMATA.

GUEST: Coolness from the podcast PODGRAVY joins us to talk about standing at the abyss of the robot apocalypse, and laughing at it.

Ep. 55 - Ouija (Clue vs. Battleship)

We break out the board games, which is just about as nerdy as podcasting. Michael Bay is the inspiration for this nerdery, with the new OUIJA film being yet another check to cash for the man while he takes breaks from terrible TRANSFORMERS movies. But as we will see later in the episode, Bay influences films he actually had no hand in with BATTLESHIP. Thankfully we've got a game of CLUE in between.

GUEST: Shawn Pryor of The Black Box podcast joins us and explains that BATTLESHIP classifies as its own genre of badness in film.

Ep. 54 - Fury (Sahara vs. The Beast of War)

We get our perfect tank crew together, under the command of Brad Pitt's hair in FURY, aided by the desert charisma of Humphrey Bogart in SAHARA, and the book smarts of Jason Patric in THE BEAST OF WAR. Add in a horse driving the tank, and it's a perfect episode of War Machine vs. War Horse.

GUEST: JD Duran of InSession Film graciously allows us to discuss his own hairy style this episode, and we think we have him talked into The Wardaddy look.

Ep. 53 - John Wick (Hachi vs. Frankenweenie)

In this episode of War Machine vs. War Horse, the dog dies. This also is the premise for Keanu Reeves to go on a rampage of revenge in the new release JOHN WICK, as do we against cinema that portrays this act that is known to produce tears the world over. The two dog hating films we take to task are 2009's HACHI and 2012's FRANKENWEENIE. Thankfully the former has the very handsome Richard Gere, and the latter is a visual feast of a film even without the beauty of Gere.

Ep. 52 - Dracula Untold (Dracula vs. Bram Stoker's Dracula)

On this episode, like the new release DRACULA UNTOLD, we attempt to find new blood in a story that has been bled dry. This character's story has been told before in cinema, going back so far as 1931 when Bela Lugosi put on the cape, up to 1992 when Gary Oldman put on MANY different costumes in the Coppola version of Dracula. All three films attempt to do different things with the character, they don't all succeed, but all three do feature a more attractive looking vampiric lead than NOSFERATU. In true War Machine vs. War Horse fashion, that may be setting the bar very low.

GUEST: Congo Rilla of the podcast Soiled Restroom Cinema joins us to discuss the appropriate apology a vampiric werewolf should give his lady when he is caught in the act with another woman.

Ep. 51 - The Judge (My Cousin Vinny vs. Conviction)

It's guilty until proven innocent on our latest episode, as we plead our cases in a couple of courtrooms. We offer a flimsy defense for two films where family defend their own in a court of law with My Cousin Vinny and Conviction, but in true War Machine vs. War Horse fashion, one will fry. First though a little pre-trial hearing with the new release The Judge.

GUEST: Peter from Hydrate Level Four and The Flash Pod joins us to talk Academy Award conspiracy theories and where to record for the best podcasting acoustics.

Ep. 50 - Gone Girl (The Lady Vanishes vs. The Vanishing)

On this episode talk about girls... who are gone. And if you think that was clever, in true War Machine vs. War Horse fashion we cleverly found two other films about women gone missing, simply by searching for two films that both have the word "vanish" in the title. Thankfully for our listeners, this episode goes a little more in depth than that as this may be the best triple feature we have ever presented on our podcast. This being our 50th episode and all, we thought we'd treat ourselves and went with 1938's THE LADY VANISHES & 1988's THE VANISHING, followed by David Fincher's much anticipated GONE GIRL.

Ep. 49 - White Bird In A Blizzard (The Burning Plain vs. Winter's Bone)

WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD inspires us to go on the search with three different daughters in search of their missing parent. In 2009's THE BURNING PLAIN, Jennifer Lawrence becomes suspicious of her mother's activities away from the family and discovers an affair that will affect the rest of her life, while on a much smaller scale we once again see Jennifer Lawrence in WINTER'S BONE, searching for her missing father, whose absence from appearing in court will cause her family to lose their home. Shailene Woodley keeps the episode from becoming a J-Law trifecta, but unfortunately she can not stop the lack of men's hair on film to discuss in this episode.

GUEST: Britt from Eclectic Pop joins us to discuss rewatchability in films, and how WINTER'S BONE is not a cinematic world she wants to visit often.

Ep. 48 - Annabelle (Magic vs. Child's Play)

ANNABELLE does not inspire us to collect dolls, but two other creepy dolls in cinema from MAGIC & CHILD'S PLAY might. However it is an unfair fight as only one film has Ann-Margret and company.

GUEST: Congo Rilla from the Signals of Fury podcast Soiled Restroom Cinema, joins us to offer creepy doll defense techniques.

Ep. 47 - The Skeleton Twins (You Can Count On Me vs. The Savages)

THE SKELETON TWINS inspires us to grow up with the siblings from 2000's YOU CAN COUNT ON ME and the 2007 release THE SAVAGES. Like the siblings in these films, we attempt adulthood, but somewhere along the way we fail, have us a good cry with some other films that may surprise you, and go to a very dark place by discussing the ending of REQUIEM FOR A DREAM at the end of this episode.

Join Shane Conner, Michael Denniston, and Christopher Maynard as they discuss which one of us will become the heel for War Machine vs. War Horse.
